A virus is a small infectious agent that can replicate only inside the living cell of an organism.
A virus has the reputation of being stealthy, sneaking in through the backdoor of the host, uninvited. It is an invasive agent that reproduces itself inside the cells of living hosts. When a virus infects the host, the cell is forced to produce many thousands of identical copies of the original virus at an extraordinary rate.
Viral infections can cause disease, but they usually are eliminated by the immune system. Where antibiotics have no effect; antiviral drugs have been developed for life-threatening infections. Vaccines that produce lifelong immunity can prevent some viral infections.
Suddenly. In the middle of preparing my linkup party email, my laptop CRASHED!! It had a virus!!
My computer has GONE VIRAL!!
It is diseased.
A computer virus behaves much like viruses that attack the human body. It is a type of malware that, when executed, replicates by inserting copies of itself into other computer programs. It corrupts and modifies data files and the boot sector of the hard drive.
When this replication of corrupt files occurs we often say our computer is “infected” with a virus.
